What would have happened if Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X had sat down for a real, honest conversation? The Meeting by Jeff Stetson is a gripping, fictional account of a private encounter between these two towering figures of the Civil Rights Movement. Set in a Harlem hotel room in 1965, just weeks before Malcolm X's assassination, the play imagines a heartfelt and ideologically charged dialogue between the nonviolent preacher and the passionate human rights activist. Their intense exchange reveals both the profound differences in their philosophies and the deep mutual respect they share in their pursuit of justice, freedom, and dignity for Black Americans.
Written in 1987, The Meeting has garnered critical acclaim for its powerful exploration of race, leadership, and moral conviction. Winner of multiple NAACP Theatre Awards, the play has been performed across the globe and continues to resonate with audiences today. Join us for a moving and thought-provoking production by our students as they bring to life this imagined moment in history—one that challenges us to consider how dialogue across differences can fuel progress and understanding.
